Elysa (Estonian entrant in ESCT 31)
Good evening, Europe! Welcome to the Estonian National Final for ESCT 32
"Võitlus Võimaluse Pärast”!
The title of our selection contest translates to "Battle for the Chance" and it is fitting that all of our potential entrants are battling it out to reach the grand finale.
To celebrate the 6th anniversary of the Estonian Pre-selection contest the Estonian selection committee has invited back one veteran act from each of the five pre-selections contests from ESCT27 to ESCT31. These five veteran acts have earnt themselves a second chance to perform the same songs to see if they will have better luck this time. The acts were chosen based on who the selection committee were undervalued in their original contest.
In contrast to previous years there will be 10 acts. Five new acts and five veteran performers. Each veteran has been assigned a challenger to battle it out with. Acts have been paired based on their genre of music and how well they fit together. We ask the delegations to vote for their favourite out of the two acts in each battle. The winner of each battle will then be put forward to the grand final. The selection committee would there to be six acts in the final, so the runner-up with the most points in a battle will also qualify for the final.
The winner of the grand final will go onto represent Estonia in ESCT 32. The runner-up will represent the country in the second chance contest.
We invite all of our brothers, sisters and cousins from all over Europe to help us select our entry. Please can you listen to all of the songs before choosing your favourite from each battle.

Battle 1
Veteran - Greta Paia – ‘Warm Nights’ (ESC 27 Pre-selection)
Grete Paia is a no stranger to ESCT having tried to represent Estonia twice before. Her song ‘Warm Nights’ came third in the pre-selection contest “Uus Eesti Nägemus”. She is hoping that being given this second chance is enough for her to finally be able to represent Estonia.
vs
Challenger - Getter Jaani – ‘Chasing Trouble’
Greta’s challenger is actually one of her closest industry friends, Getter Jaani. Getter first became publicly known in Estonia in 2009 as a participant in the third season of Eesti Otsib Superstaari, the Estonian version of Pop Idol. She finished fourth and her performance gained her role of Sharpay Evans in the Estonian version of High School Musical. Getter is hoping her song ‘Chasing Trouble’ will help her be successful in her first Estonian pre-selection contest.
Battle 2
Veteran - Liis Lemsalu – ‘Fire’ (ESCT 28 Pre-selection)
Liis rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of Eesti Otsib Superstaari, the Estonian version of Idol series. She is one of the most popular artists in Estonia and her most streamed song on Youtube (Sinu Ees) has over 2.1 million views which is double the amount of people who live in Estonia. She has previously represented Estonian in ESCT with her song 'Breaking the rules' which unfortunately missed out on the grand final by 1 point. She tried to represent Estonia again in ESCT 28 with her song ‘Fire’ which came fifth with 60 points. She is hoping to see out her opponent and challenge for the chance to represent Estonia again.
vs
Challengers - Ollie – ‘Bonfire’ ft. Uku Suviste
The challengers of this battle are Ollie and Uku Suviste. Ollie is a Finnish / Estonian DJ with a passion for mash-ups. He is joined on stage by Estonian singer-songwriter Uku Suviste. They are hoping that their fast-paced pop song ‘Bonfire’ will be enough to surpass Liis.
Battle 3
Veteran - Marillis Jogeva – ‘Go’ (ESCT 29 Pre-selection)
Marillis Jogeva tried to represent Estonia in ESCT 29. Many consider the pre-selection for Estonia in that contest to be the strongest of all time. Marillis’ song ‘Go’ achieved third place behind Maian and Laura with 56 points. She is being granted a second chance to represent Estonia and she has vowed to give it her all.
vs
Challengers – Violina – ‘Me Calientas’
The challengers of this battle are Violina. Violina are a classically trained band. They have played together for the last 10 years and specialise in bridging that gap between pop and classical music. They are joined on stage by Emily J and Meriam Bosa when performing their song ‘Me Calientas’.
Battle 4
Veterans - Sinine – ‘Sel Teel’ ft. Sandra Nurmsalu (ESCT 30 Pre-selection)
Sinine is a music producer and singer that specialises in fast paced pop songs. Sandra Nurmsalu is an Estonian singer, violinist and lead singer of the band Urban Symphony. They tried representing Estonia in ESCT30 with their song ‘Sel Teel’. Ultimately, they came joint third with 54 points. They are hoping they are more successful this time round.
vs
Challenger - Frankie Animal – ‘Nightlights’
This is Frankie Animal’s first time trying to represent Estonia in ESCT. The band is made up of Marie Valga, Jonas Kaarnamets and Jan-Christopher Soovik. They are hoping that their unique brand of indie-rock is enough to win this battle and challenge for the chance to represent Estonia in ESCT 32 with their song ‘Nightlights’.
Battle 5
Veteran - Iiris – ‘Wild Unknown Thing’ (ESCT 31 – Pre-selection)
Iiris has tried to represent Estonia a number of times but has never been quite successful. Her most recent effort ‘Wild Unknown Thing’ came fifth in the pre-selection ‘Muusika Armastus’ with 32 points. Iiris is frequently compared to artists such as Björk, Florence & The Machine, Kate Bush, Kerli and Regina Spektor.
Vs
Challenger - Lepatriinu – ‘Up The Sky’
Lepatriinu is the challenger of this battle. This is the first time she has tried to represent Estonia and she does so with her song ‘Up The Sky’. Lepatriinu is a mystical siren, but she is actually a tender being who attempts to charm you with her smooth vocals and hints of impish electronic rhythms.
Muchas Gracias!
